1 Thessalonians 5:18
This has been a challenging season for me and my family. An assortment of difficult situations have been coming from all sides. Decisions to be made, difficult diagnoses to receive at the doctor’s office, people we love being hurt, car problems, etc... It feels like we can’t handle one more thing. I wonder how God can use all of this. I pray that I am making the right decisions to honor Him.
This verse above keeps coming back to me. Isn't it difficult to give thanks in unpleasant circumstances? It's not my inclination to go around being thankful when my car breaks down, when someone I love is sick, or when things don't go my way. But that is my earthly perspective. Maybe, without my knowledge the “mess that is my life” is witnessing to someone and pointing them to Jesus.
I say “Jesus, I just want to be like You”. And then I remember that He suffered.
These circumstances are accomplishing something for His glory far bigger than my human mind can imagine. There’s a bigger story here for my good and for His glory. I can’t tell you in specific terms what the bigger story is. But I can assure you there is one.
I know God can use whatever the enemy throws at us for good. Just as Joseph told his brothers in Genesis, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” Genesis 50:20
I hope this brings you some comfort in your own trials (I know we all have them). Keep trusting, keep showing up and reaching out, keep praying, keep reading the Word, and keep giving Him the praise.
We’re in this together.
